1909 Illinois Athletic Club stars Alfred Sauer, Arthur G.Fox, James W. Knox

In  1911, these Chicagoans took 4 of the 6 medals as Sauer won the silver medals in epee and saber and Knox won the bronze medals in epee and saber.  US Fencing Hall of Famer Alfred Sauer was the US national champion in foil in 1916 and the US national champion in epee in 1913 and was a member of the 1912 US Olympic fencing team.  Arthur G. Fox was a member of the 1904 US Olympic fencing team and he earned an Olympic silver medal in men's foil team.  James W. Knox was a 3-time US medalist in epee and saber.  They all represented the Illinois Athletic Club.
